Becoming an Architectural & Interiors Photographer Part II

I had found a new path and understood the direction in which to move forward, Architectural Photography. In the next segment, I want to talk more about my journey to becoming an Architectural Photographer in the Tampa/St. Petersburg area and the challenges of becoming a small business Owner.

In 2021 after 5 years of research, we made the decision…..pack it all up and move to Florida. A big decision involving two people, two dogs, two houses to sell and COVID was in full swing. Thankfully, the housing market was booming and both houses were gone in a week. Even more thankfully, we found a house in Florida in the middle of their Real Estate boom. We landed in November 2021, settled in and almost immediately I began the daunting task of building my business back up from scratch.
In Connecticut, I had built my business around being a Real Estate Photographer. This was my bread & butter that kept me very busy with serveral excellent Real Estate Clients. The really interesting work, while more spread out, was on Architectural & Interiors Photographer shoots. Architectural Photography and Interior Design Photography is a much different type of shoot. More time, thought and creativity go into creating a photograph that not only captures a space but tells the story of the space and the creative design of the Architect or Interior Designer.

Tampa/St. Petersburg is undergoing a renaissance in growth and culture. Both cities seem to be competing for who can grow faster and attract the most businesses and new residents. After one year, it’s my opinion they are both doing growing equally, yet each in their own unique way. It’s from this observation I am buiding my business as an Architectural Photographer and Interiors Photographer to be a part of this renaissance and capture the growth and change.

Any independent business owner knows a good portion of a days work is spent on accounting, sales, marketing etc. All necessary tasks that lead up to doing the one thing we love, in this case famous architectural photographer in florida. I would argue that in today’s world, reaching out and marketing to potential clients is more challenging than even 20 years ago. We are inundated with content from so many different directions that minds are numb and turn it all off. Further, for a small Architectrural Photographer with limited resources keeping up the barage of advertising to stay in front of a target audience is challenging.

With all of the social media channels and content options available to me, I decided to pursue a more simple path to building my Architectural abd Interior design photographers in Tampa client base, getting out and meeting with people. Face to face time with Architectural & Interiors Photographer to get to know their business on a personable level and learn about their work and marketing goals. I have also joined the St. Petersburg and Treasure Island Chamber of Commerce and several networking groups to help build my brand in the area. All of this seems more real to me than sending out endless email advertisments.

As 2022 comes to a close, I feel this strategy has worked well for me. It has been a learning experience understanding the art of networking and making connections. In 2023 I hope to expand my presence across the Bay into Tampa to learn more about the opportunities happening there. The goal and focus remains the same, to build and Architectural and Interior Design Photography business both in Tampa/St. Peterburg and worldwide.

Who out there would like me to buy them a coffee and have a chat?
